Exhibits & Facilities Manager

Status: Full-Time Exempt
Department: Exhibits & Facilities Department
Location: Children’s Discovery Museum, San Jose, CA, 100% On-Site

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Exhibits & Facilities, the Exhibits & Facilities Manager ensures that CDM exhibits and facilities are safe, clean, operating, and maintained.  This position directly accomplishes our core purpose of creating great and unique spaces and experiences in which to work, play, and learn.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of exhibit and facility department operations.
  • Ensure all exhibit and facility spaces, workshops, and equipment are in compliance with regulations and building, health, and safety codes.
  • Develop and manage exhibit and facility operations and maintenance scheduling.
  • Supervise all exhibit and facility operation and maintenance technicians, including contractors.
  • Train exhibit and facility operation and maintenance technicians for on-call exhibit and facility responsibilities.
  • Manage exhibit and facility maintenance requests, parts, and supplies.
  • Perform exhibit and facility routine maintenance, repairs, and new work.
  • Manage exhibit and facility operations and maintenance records and documents.
  • Integrate exhibit and facility work with museum operations and coordinate work with outside vendors.
  • Prepare specifications for special contract work.
  • Assist the Director of Exhibits with exhibit and facility operations and maintenance budget planning.
  • Train and perform backup Floor Manager responsibilities to support the Director of Exhibits and Museum Operations Manager (Requires physical presence and contact with children).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director in support of CDM operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct reports: 
    • Exhibit and facility operation and maintenance technicians.
  • Indirect reports / contractors supervised: 
    • Outside vendors, special contractors, and 
    • occasionally admissions/floor staff when acting as backup Floor Manager.

Visitor Experience Associate

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The Visitor Experience team performs a wide variety of duties to ensure visitors to the Museum have a clean, safe, and fun experience. This position works on the floor of the Museum and in the Museum’s outdoor exhibit, Bill’s Backyard, to sanitize routinely, to answer guest inquiries, and to enforce safety protocol. This position works closely with the public and requires a high level of communication and judgment skills. Bilingual skills are helpful but not required. Must be able to stand for a sustained long period of time.
